Technology pioneers Adelan are headlining Birmingham’s Greentech event next month as the city showcases the world’s best clean technology at its premier sustainability show.

Posted September 20th 2019

Adelan is hosting a central element of Birmingham Tech Week in October as the lead behind a Greentech showcase event.

Focused on collaboration within Birmingham, Tech Week aims to support the development of deeper relationships and connections across the city with its vibrant mix of tech businesses, policy makers, inventors and makers. With a combination of guest speakers, panel sessions, and interactive activities, one of the three key themes to be explored includes Innovate Birmingham, focusing on the city’s tech boom.

Birmingham sat at the heart of engineering innovation and invention for centuries, and continues to lead the world to this day in manufacturing. The surrounding Midlands region provides a unique innovation landscape where university spin-out companies like Adelan engage with manufacturing supply chains to incubate revolutionary products. Invention-based commerce in the region creates jobs, prosperity and social benefits. Ground-breaking technology such as Adelan’s fuel cell power generators offer a route to clean energy access in a host of diverse applications, and address pressing environmental and social needs. But this is just one of a range of technical solutions required to address challenges like air pollution and carbon emissions. The only Greentech event of Tech Week will celebrate such innovations.

Taking place on 10th October from 4pm through to 9pm, companies, groups and individuals will present their Greentech solutions.  Businesses especially are invited to join Adelan in an exhibition highlighting the cream of Birmingham’s burgeoning clean tech industry.

Dr Michaela Kendall, Adelan CEO, says: “This event is a superb opportunity for the best of Birmingham’s talent to showcase their solutions to our environmental challenges. We need lots of different technologies to address fundamental issues like air quality and pollution, climate change and our environmental impact. Fuel cells are an important part of that solution, but various technologies may become vital for our future. Adelan is delighted to offer an open invitation to any other local Greentech companies to display their technical solutions to today’s environmental challenges. Whether it is local air quality, waste water treatment, or energy supply, hardware or software, if it’s greentech we want to see you there.”

Preet Kaur Gill MP, the Member of Parliament for Birmingham Edgbaston, says:

“To improve the health of people and our planet, we must develop measures now to help tackle climate change and improve our air quality – the largest environmental risk to public health here in the UK. Tech companies can play a pivotal role in helping to solve the climate crisis. That is why I support Birmingham Greentech businesses, like Adelan in my constituency, who are developing innovative solutions to complex climate challenges.”

About Adelan

First founded in The Midlands, Birmingham-based Adelan pioneered microtubular solid oxide fuel cell (mSOFC) technology more than 30 years’ ago. Adelan’s patented and scalable technology gives the fuel cell unprecedented flexibility, allowing the system to run cleanly on a range of commonly available fuels such as LPG, natural gas or propane/butane mix. As a result, though Adelan fuel cells can also run on hydrogen, they offer considerable additional operational flexibility and ease of use benefits whilst retaining a small, compact and lightweight footprint. Adelan staff founded and built up the University of Birmingham Fuel Cells Centre, and now aim to commercialise UK fuel cell technology through the Fuel Cell Incubator, with a first event in October 2019.
