This project is developing a ‘SOFcSOLar’ (SOFSOL) home power system combining the solar battery infrastructure of the Jiangsu partner ZNB with the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) knowledge and manufacturing experience of Adelan (UK). Batteries are used to store renewable energy in Chinese homes, but the problem is battery weight, volume and cost. Fuel cells enhance battery storage to provide more storage and back-up capacity for the same weight/volume/cost, while also providing hot water using the gas grid. The key outcomes will be a new joint company to commercialise the system in Chinese markets and new inventions.
